Dirk apparently let it slip under questioning during Q&A

http://seekingalpha.com/article/85590-advanced-micro-devices-inc-q2-2008-earnings-call-transcript?page=8

Chris Danely – JP Morgan

A little bit of an itchy question but in terms of the Barcelona speeds are you guys shipping 2.4 ghz now and when will you begin shipping 2.5 and 2.6?

Dirk Meyer

The answer to the first question is no, not yet in volume. On the second question I’d like to hold off until we talk about future products and actually launch them rather than pre-launch announce.

Chris Danely – JP Morgan

Dirk can you give us a sense for when you will begin shipping in volume?

Dirk Meyer

On Shanghai?

Chris Danely – JP Morgan

The 2.4 Barcelona.

Dirk Meyer

I don’t want to pre-announce product introductions on the call.

This was a very odd exchange, the 2.5 GHz barcey has been announced....

Either Meyer is confused by the question and thinks he is asking about Shanhai, or Meyer doesn't even know what he has on the market right now....

Or he does know what's out on the market, but not what's been announced. (paper launched?)

Newegg has the 2.4 and the 2.5GHz bacelona's in stock. One would think major oems got get priority over newegg, so I doubt there is really an issue here.

Exactly! All Barcelona 2xxx and 8xxx models that are listed on the newegg are in-stock.

Meyer was obviously talking about Shanghai.

He was NOT talking about Shanghai, as is obvious from the transcript.

The caller asked about 2.4GHz Barcelona, not 2.4GHz Barcelona SE.

Only SE (130W or whatever) TDP versions of Barc have been shipped at 2.4 and 2.5GHz.

However, Phenom 2.4 exists both at an "SE" TDP, and a plain 95W TDP "mainstream" power level.

That's what the caller wanted to know. Since Phenom is shipping at 2.4/95W, he's asking if Barc is shipping at 2.4/95W, and if they will be able to launch 2.5 and 2.6 @ 95W.

The answer is: No. (though for 2.5 and 2.6, phrased in AMD speak as, "I wouldn't want to pre-announce...") Dirk could've said "there won't be any 2.5 or 2.6 95W Barcelonas", but that sounds worse.

The reason Dirk thinks his followup is about Shanghai (until the analyst clarifies) is twofold:

(1) He JUST mentioned Shanghai to the previous analyst
(2) He assumed he completely answered the first question and noted he would not want to pre-announce products, so the followup of "when will it ship in volume?" is likely about something else... the thing he just mentioned (see 1)

Ok, this makes more sense.
