True story. My older brother called me today:

Him:
"Do you have any use for a 3GHz Penryn cpu? I just upgraded my cpu to a Q9650 quad core"

Me:
"Oh nice, what did you need a quad for?"

him:
"Meh, well, mostly for converting downloaded movies to bluray. takes forever. Now it only takes 2 hours in stead of 4+".

Me: "Yeah, that makes sense. Probably a good investment then. But didn't you have a HD media player that plays those MKVs and AVI's natively and from your NAS to your tv?".

Him:
"Yes, i do."

Me:
"So why burn blu-ray's? You will lose quality and waste discs. And hey.. do you even have a bluray player for your tv?"

Him:
"I dont. Maybe I should buy a PS3?".

me:
"So you had a perfectly good solution to play your movies, but now you bought a quad core just to speed up the process of degrading your HD movies and burning them on to expensive blank bluray's that you can't even play ?"

him:
"Exactly. Now do you want that Penryn or not ?".
