This forum is meant as a temporarily solution to keep the aceshardware.com community together, until Brian Neal and or Johan Delagas comes up with something new. This forum will be closed the day they launch a new site.

Meanwhile, you should be able post here, with no registration, no smileys, etc. Make yourself at home, even if its (hopefully) just for a short time.

That's a great idea P4man. I'm up for keeping the people together. I really hope the others back this one up. It won't be the same without the others :(

Cheers everybody, I hope Brian and Chris get the old forum back ASAP as - apart from the excellent posters which luckily won't go away with the forum - the forum software was simple and easy to use and read.

Well, I hope you are right about the excellent posters not going away, but I'm less sure about that.

As for the layout; indeed Aces' was (/is) remarkably 'clean' and easy to use. But not without its faults either. A decent search is sorely lacking, and some other, minor issues include things like the inability to read a thread while replying (tabbed browsing helps you out, but still).

Anyway, I seem to recall seeing an option for a "threaded" view in phpbb, but I can't find it. Does someone know ?

Hi all,

I was nazgul99 on the original forum, but for several reasons was not happy with it for some time. Fixed :)

On planet3dnow.de's forum (also phpbb based I think) there is a certain control center where users can set their preferences - can't find it here ATM. There was a possiility to set something like "view threaded" there, but I didn't like it.

OTOH, while replying you can see the whole (flat) thread when you scroll down in an Iframe.

Uffe - Exactly. P4Man - cheers. JS - yup, I feel the same! Won't hang about here much until Aces' actually dies though... kinda hoping it won't.

I have never posted much at Aces but have been a regular reader for almost as long as I can remember. Thanks for setting up this temporary alternative - you are keeping alive one of the most valuable resources on the 'net.

Regards

Ian
