I have a debit card that I use only to take money out at ATMs; everything that I can put on credit cards goes on a credit card, and on pay-day I check what the credit-card balance is and make a transfer of the appropriate sum. This gets me various sorts of insurance (which I've had to use a couple of times in ten years) for near-enough-free; the credit card has no monthly charge.

Debit cards are scary.

With a credit card, you have up to 28 days of float, which means you're still earning interest on your money before you make the real payment.

Perhaps you are afloat but the US monetary and financial system seems to be slowly sinking :-)

UPDATE:

So, as planned, i contacted the retailler, ADORAMA, out of Amazon.com ... ADORAMA is good ranking, but if you look carefully, they in fact sells a lot of cheap items. I got connected to "Monique" , she was nice, up to the point I asked for returning or exchanging the TV. Then, she started telling me that ADORAMA does not allow returns on TV bigger than 20 inches ... That mean the entiere TV line is not exchangable ... When I propose to return to ADORAMA, Monique basically told me that if I do so, they will decline the return package, and leave it in the street. Strong of this dissapointing information, I did recontact SAMSUNG. Samsung is sending a technician the 9th to access the repair or replacement of the TV ...
Bottom line .... DON T BUY SAMSUNG, nothing elegant into their practice, and they choose very badly their retaillers.
ADORAMA is a terrible store, only focussed on selling and not helping their customers in case of problem. To be avoided at any cost. They refuse the return even if you remind them the federal laws on return policy. I will send them a lawyer for damage anyway, I can afford it, and I think it is a good think to prevent this kind of behavior.

this is my personal opinion.

saying "dont buy samsung" here is about as silly as saying dont buy intel because some retailer wouldnt honor the warranty (even if intel itself would step in and help me within 24hrs).

Speaking of warranty and Intel, their retail warranty service was atrocious.

I spent a couple of hours in total trying to RMA a a Q6600 that would spontaneously reboot. In diagnosing it was the CPU I switched CPUs with another Q6600 machine to verify the problem moved with it. Intel had a long playlist of things to blame that weren't the CPU (power supply, motherboard, etc) and in the end I just ate the cost and got a working one because spending N more hours trying to convince some rep that the CPU is actually faulty.

I also learned that despite wiritng the warranty on retail CPUs, and mentioning nothing about the vendor, they basically refuse to directly honor the warranty and repeatedly insist that the CPU be returned to the vendor.

please provide me your RMA number, I spoke with they retail guys, and we have very strict policy, if you purchased it from a certified retailler, it should not be any problem to exchange it.
Did you call Intel hotline? If you have an OEM system, we provide spares to OEM for replacement.
I am not talking for my company here, but if there is a problem, I will take on myself to fix the process.

How cool is that, to have the lead architect of Nehalem and the COO of intel post here ?

While I will take your word for the attitude of the rep you spoke with, I would highly doubt they would refuse to honor warranty of the CPU. I understand returning the cpu to the vendor is the standard procedure, and it Should get your cpu replaced.

Very true.

I actually tell people that I use Charge Cards (not credit cards) as I never carry a balance.

I have the cards set up to automatically debit my checking account for the full amount due each month. I look at this as free use of cash over a 30 day period. The rebates I earn on the cards is an added bonus ($750+ in cash yearly).
