NOT

I gave up on it a long time ago when his ego mania became too much to bear.

There aren't too many places I go now to discuss things

Here (it seems to be slowly dying too)
http://www.realworldtech.com (mostly just lurking)
http://www.hardwarecentral.com (can't login for some reason so just look from time to time)

There are quite a few places to get news:

http://www.theinquirer.net
http://www.theregister.co.uk

and occasionally
http://www.geek.com
http://www.xbitlabs.com
http://www.anandtech.com

but no great discussion forums any more (unless you know otherwise)

L

That place is suffering due to Dean Kent's own idiocy in implementing a Sunday Morning in Church level of robustness in conversation.

One of the worst and dumbest avoidable mistakes I have ever witnessed.

DUCK thats only because people love to use forums to drum their egos. Having a forum where you can talk about deep technical problems with the ego trip is not an unreasonable dream.

There is a difference between reasonable robust debate and a stifling Church standard straightjacket.

Dean Kent's failure to appreciate this has literally rendered his forum useless.

Spoken like a person who got slammed by Dean's "robustness". If you can't converse like a civilized adult when you know what th rules are in advance, then it isn't Dean who has the problem. It wasn't a mistake.

A profoundly ignorant response by you.

You only have to see the difference in the forum before and after Kent decided to implement Church talk to see what a mistake it was.

My gripe is that he destroyed what used to be a forum that produced interesting debate. Now it is near useless and needs to be put out of its misery.

Thanks for proving my point, and boy was that predictable. Creative riposte--if nothing to say, call them ignorant.

You didn't like Deans changes. Tough. Get over it. Grow up. Or start your own forum...

I don't like how it killed off what use to be so many interesting discussions.

Are you so blind as to not notice the difference between what the forum was like 18 months or so ago and nowadays?

The only conversations it killed off were tiresome, boring flames about Itanium and their boosters vs. their detractors.

Blind? Were/are you so deaf to what was going on? Dean gave you and others a choice. You all could have modified your posting style(s). You either chose not to, or (and I don't know how anyone could have thought this, Dean was very, explicitly, clear) you thought that Dean was bluffing.

Given how clear Dean made his intentions, I will assume that you chose not to modify your posting style, with predictable results. And now whinge about it. You don't like it. Fair enough, but don't try the same bully boy tactics (Ignorant, blind) whilst lamenting poor, put upon, Duck of Death.

Yes there were some intelligent people at the old RWT. But frankly, the S/N was not worth the effort--so in effect, the forum became a pissing contest between (a small number of) egos. You liked it. I didn't. But that difference of opinion makes me neither ignorant, nor blind.

The option of contacting some of the other people whose posts you admired and starting a forum of your liking is still open to you.
